Recording in 1440p with an ultra-wide 180-degree field of view. The former two are somewhat less useful than the latter. There are also Lane Departure and Forward Collision warnings, as well as Speed Camera warnings. That might seem like a funny thing to say, but it won't look out of place in a Range Rover or Mercedes, while others on this list will.ĭespite being small, the Garmin 66 manages to pack in plenty of extra features, such as GPS and smartphone integration with the Garmin Virb app. It's one of the most compact cameras here (so takes up less windscreen space) and resembles a GoPro, making it the most attractive as well. This fantastic little dash cam from Garmin earns second place on this list with good image quality, a number of extra features, and actually quite an attractive design. Thankfully the 3-inch rear touchscreen is crisp, clear and very easy to use, while the inclusion of What3Words is clever, as it can alert the emergency and breakdown services of an exact location, even when there is no Wi-Fi or mobile data available.Įasy to set up, sleekly packaged and a doddle to operate, the Nextbase 622GW is our top pick, doing everything that's required of a dash cam and doing it well, but also offers some useful additional features. Despite the new dual 2.4GHz + 5GHz Wi-Fi, it still has trouble connecting with phones to transfer images and video clips. Like its 522GW sibling, this model can be controlled via the voice with Alexa Skills, but it requires the accompanying smartphone app to work, which isn’t the best. ![]() ![]() Even in poor lighting, it's easy to pick out details and features, while a special Super Slow-Mo mode (1080p at 120fps) means it is now easier than ever to read registration plates on fast-moving vehicles.Ī built-in polarising filter on the front of the camera can be rotated to reduce glare from windscreens, while digital image stabilisation is another first for the dash cam market and helps smooth out those bumps and shakes caused by potholes and poor road surfaces. ![]() Here's what SK Pang say the board is capable of: The board looks very well built with clearly labeled bits. There is a really nice schematic and user guide that SK Pang have provided on their website. ![]() It has a NMEA 0183 terminal block and NMEA 2000 port on the left side in the picture above, and the connector for the Raspberry Pi on the right hand side. The PICAN-M is a pretty simple, yet well designed board. In this case, the extra parts and pieces were important when I bought the Pi to do testing in general, but were not necessary since the PICAN-M provides power, and the case provided by CanaKit won't work. I generally purchase the CanaKit bundle when I am buying a Raspberry Pi (I think I have about 15 right now doing various things at home and on the boat) as they tend to include a nice power supply, case, cables, and mainstream brand SD card, but you can get them cheaper without those pieces if you prefer. I decided to install the PICAN-M on it, and then try out a few different things. ![]() I had a Raspberry Pi 4 that I had been playing around with ever since it came out, but didn’t have a clear purpose for it. The original manufacturer of the board is SK Pang Electronics out of the UK. I ordered one from Copperhill Technologies here in the US and it arrived a few days later. An easier way….Ī reader and Instagram follower (thanks Ilker Temir!) pointed me to an add-on board, or HAT, for the Raspberry Pi called the PICAN-M, and I was intrigued. Both have pros and cons and require connecting to a USB port on the Pi, plus some configuration. Once the power problem is solved, connecting the Pi to the boat network involved either an Actisense NGT-1 USB adapter ($) or a canable.io adapter to get it on the NMEA 2000 network. I have had good luck with this 12v-5v converter from Tobsun, and I particularly like it because it has four screw down terminals on it, making it easy to connect cabling. I always wanted mine to run off of the 12v DC battery bank without any connection to an AC outlet, inverter, or USB converter that isn't hard wired. Raspberry Pi's run off of USB power which is 5V, and not generally available on the boat in a permanent way. The first step in connecting a Pi to the boat was to find a proper power supply. On sailboats in particular, I loved having a Pi on board because I could have an always-on computer that didn't take a ton of power, had a decent amount of CPU power, and use it to monitor things while I was away. system that has features just like the big vendors. In addition, you can run OpenCPN or OpenPlotter and have a fully functioning boat control, autopilot, chart, etc. My main reason is to run a Signal K server on it, have it connected to my NMEA 2000 network, and leverage the hundreds of plugins and pieces of software that you can install to create dashboards, gather data, set alarms and alerts, and so much more. There are many reasons to have a Raspberry Pi connected to your boat network that I can think of. Connecting them to a NMEA 2000 network, and powering them off a DC battery bank has required a bit more work up until now. I’ve had them on every boat since the Pi first came out. ![]() Running a Raspberry Pi aboard a boat has been a popular thing to do for a number of years. Hence, it was thought that the turtle had a special connection with the universe. ![]() In the old days, the turtle was used because of the perceived connection to the He Tu, and because it was thought that the turtle's shell depicts the 10 stems, 12 branches and 24 mountains. Of course, nowadays, and probably due to the protection against needless killing of turtles for their shell, most people practice this method without the turtle shell. The pattern of the coins enables the derivation of a Gua or Hexagram image, which then provides the answer to the query. You put coins inside a turtle shell, shake it and pour out the coins. Now, almost everyone is familiar with this or has seen it some time or another in a TVB serial show. The first method is the method pioneered by King Wen (Wen Wang) which is the turtle shell method. Yi Gua, which is a method of probability science, derived from Yi Jing, has three principle methods. So what then is Yi Gua you might be wondering?Ĭoin tossing, yarrow sticks and turtle shells We can only say that fundamental concepts of the Yi are assimilated in the formulas of the Feng Shui practice. It still falls under the broader umbrella of Chinese Metaphysics but it is not Feng Shui. It is a complementary discipline for many Feng Shui and BaZi practitioners, but it is a completely different and separate field of study. Yi Gua, which is a form of science of probability, or as the Chinese philosophers called it, the science of divination, is derived from the concept of "Yi" in Yi Jing and was later developed by King Wen (Wen Wang) but technically, it is not Feng Shui. Also, there are 6 Yaos (lines) in the Hexagram with each giving a different meaning to the entire reading. With this kind of approach, you can read just about anything into everything when in actual fact, the concept of Qian Gua as 'A Dragon Flying Towards the Sky' is actually a form of mnemonic, to help sages and students remember that Qian Gua is actually upward moving pure Yang energy. That is taking the Yi Jing not just literally, but with substantial quantities of liberal and highly subjective interpretation. From here, it is expanded to mean that a person with such a figurine can have the power of a King or Emperor, as that is what Qian Gua stands for, amongst other things. Some New Age Feng Shui practitioners claim that placing a figurine of a Dragon Flying Towards the Sky creates the power of Qian Gua (the Heaven Hexagram) because Qian Gua is described in the Yi Jing's texts as 'A Dragon Flying Towards the Sky'. A very good example of this liberal interpretation of the Yi Jing's original text is the importing of the imagery of the Guas (Hexagrams) into Feng Shui by way of man made figurines. This means that you cannot import something from the Yi Jing's text directly into Feng Shui and call it Feng Shui. But Feng Shui systems involve taking the basic "Yi" information, and deriving a process and method, to use that information in an environmental context. There is indeed a connection between the "Yi" in Yi Jing (Yi being Change) because Feng Shui draws upon the concepts of changing lines, duality of polarity and the Five Elements, the Eight Trigrams, which are components of the Yi aspect of the Yi Jing. Often, people misunderstand the connection between the Yi Jing and Feng Shui. Yi Jing and Feng Shui: Connected yet Disparate These trigram and hexagram images were later used by a philosopher called Jing Fang to develop the science of probability, and to develop a means to compute outcomes and events, through understanding causality, time, space and the universe, known as Yi Gua. The ancient sages used the Yi Jing to depict the universe as man knew it and derive philosophical conclusions from it. ![]() The Yi Jing in its original form, is very much a form of pictorial philosophy, as represented by trigrams (the dual polarities of Yin and Yang, depicted in three lines) or hexagrams (six lines of Yin and Yang combinations). Strictly speaking, it has nothing to do with Feng Shui per se. The word "Yi Jing" means sutra or classics of change. The Yi Jing tells you, based on your rank or position in society, how you should behave and go about your daily life, as a wife, as a general, as a king, as a Minister. Written during the Shang Dynasty (1766-1050 BC), it is about the way of life, or if you're more Zen-inclined, the Tao of Life. ![]() The Yi Jing (often mis-pronounced as I-Ching) originally started out as a book about the philosophy of life and behaviour. Let's get the facts right first as always, so that we have a proper context for the conversation. ![]() ![]() Transient global amnesia may be caused by migraine, small seizures in the temporal. It usually dissipates within 24 to 48 hours. This form is rare and seen mostly in older people. Both types of amnesia can be caused by physical damage to the brain, such as a head injury, or by psychological factors, such as stress or anxiety. Transient global amnesia is a temporary loss of all memory, especially the ability to form new memories, with milder loss of past memories, going back several hours. Oppositely, anterograde amnesia means you have difficulty making new memories and absorbing. When a person experiences an episode, the excitement of being in attendance causes a surge of hormones - cortisone and adrenaline - which then play havoc with the brain's ability to store memories for a short period of time. Anterograde amnesia is a condition that affects the ability to form new memories, while retrograde amnesia affects the ability to recall past memories. ![]() While waiting for my food, a quick Google search revealed that apparently, The Squawking Goat is what everybody who visits Maple Street Biscuit Company, is raving about, so my expectations were sky high. It was around noon, but I can eat breakfast all day, so when I saw Maple Street Biscuit Company, just off Main Street, I immediately decided to give it a shot. I would definitely eat here again but probably on a less busy day with different order choices. While I was waiting to check in at the hotel, I went for a walk down Main Street, looking for a place to have late breakfast. The Sticky Maple Biscuit was super tasty! The chicken on the biscuit was a bit spicy which caught me off guard but it's balanced out well with the syrup base on the plate and the buttery biscuit. I liked the Maple Mocha Latte's taste but would have like a little more espresso in it. The berry jam used to make them is very thick and rich so a little bit would go along way but the amount added to them made the mimosas hard to enjoy. The Berry Fields Mimosas were WAYYYYY too sweet. I ordered the Maple Mocha Latte, Berry Fields Mimosa and The Sticky Maple Biscuit. My husband ordered The Cowboy biscuit and the Berry Fields Mimosa. When you place your order the cashier asks a question of the day and your answer is called out with the name on the order, which was pretty cool. The concept is cool but a bit overwhelming when busy as we had to hover around a while before seats became available. Once your order is placed the restaurant seating is community style & you seat yourself. We probably waited about 45 minutes before we made it to the cashier to order. ![]() Upon entry the line was out the door but the staff was very efficient by passing out menus to patrons to review while in line. And cleaning is a breeze because the bowl, lid, and blades are all dishwasher-safe. The food processor offers two speeds along with a pulsing option. It’s also available with a spiralizer - for making zoodles or sweet potato noodles - instead of the scraper. This processor comes with a built-in bowl scraper, which means no more stopping midprocess to clean off the sides of the bowl. While its motor is a bit on the small side and may not handle processing large loads of food well, it still gets rave reviews for its ability to handle basic day-to-day jobs, from shredding cheese to slicing vegetables. The Hamilton Beach 10-Cup Food Processor is an inexpensive food processor with good functionality. She also says the attachments allow her to get meal prep done quickly. She loves that the unit is sturdy and strong and doesn’t bounce around on her counter when used. While a bit higher priced, one user I spoke with says the price is warranted. Three feed chutes make it possible to add foods of varying shapes and sizes, meaning the machine can handle both long and oddly shaped foods that might be challenging for other models. Plus, it has an adjustable slicing disc perfect for cutting vegetables paper-thin (0.3 mm) - hello, potato gratin! - or into larger slices for crudite platters. It excels at pureeing soups and mixing batters. The Breville Sous Chef 12 food processor has both a large motor and a large capacity, which allow it to handle big jobs. Included accessories: multiple feed chutes, adjustable slicing disc (with 24 settings), micro-serrated S-blade, dough blade. Both tests resulted in even, consistent slices. The machine sliced the russet potato in three seconds, and the carrot in five seconds. We sliced a potato and carrot, and both easily fed through the chute. Twisting the dial changes the thickness of the cut. The adjustable slicing disc features a dial on the underside. Its 1,000-watt motor was plenty powerful for every task, but the unit only reached 81.9 dBA, making it one of the quieter machines we tested. How long both batteries will last depends on a number of factors, such as current draw, application, and how long you use them. So, despite both big and small batteries being rated at 1.5V, the big battery has a larger energy reserve and a longer battery life. Next time you think of buying batteries, remember a battery’s capacity to store energy increases with its size. This makes D batteries undoubtedly more powerful and ideal for devices that require high amounts of current.Ĭ batteries have a capacity of up to 8,000 mAh, while D batteries have a capacity of up to 20,000 mAh. D batteries are larger than C batteries, storing more charge and lasting longer. While the two battery types provide the same amount of voltage, they differ significantly in capacity. D batteries have an average weight of 160-180 grams, while C batteries have an average weight of 65 grams.ĭ batteries are larger than C batteries, so they will weigh more, be generally larger in size, and store more energy. ![]() Since D batteries are larger than C batteries, it goes without saying that they have more weight. On the other hand, while D batteries provide the same amount of voltage, they have higher overload capacity and are intended for high-drain applications like large flashlights, radio receivers, and alarm systems. Such devices include small flashlights, toys, and other portable devices. Supported DeviceĬ batteries are manufactured to provide a voltage of 1.5 and less overload capacity, making them ideal for small and medium drain applications, typically smaller devices. D batteries cannot fit in the battery compartments intended for C batteries, and C batteries cannot fit in compartments meant for D batteries. For this same reason, people think the two types of batteries can be used interchangeably.Ĭonsidering that D batteries are larger than C batteries, it goes without saying that it is impractical to use them interchangeably. ![]() This makes you wonder what the difference is. Voltageīasically, C and D batteries are 1.5 volts. It is important to note that these are only standard measurements the sizes can differ slightly across different brands. The standard height and diameter for C batteries are 49.5 ± 0.5 mm and 25.3 ± 0.2 mm, respectively, while D batteries measure 59.0 ± 0.5 mm and 61.5mm x 33.2mm, respectively. Similarly, C and D batteries differ in diameter and height, with C batteries measuring less. The standard size for C batteries is 50mm x 26.2mm, D batteries measure 61.5mm x 33.2mm. In this case, D batteries are larger than C batteries. The further away from the alphabet the battery name is, the larger it is. For instance, AAA is smaller than C batteries. If you take a close look at the batteries, you will notice that the alphabets represent their sizes. D Batteries: What’s the Difference? Sizes Read on to find out how the two compare with each other. This article highlights the differences between the C and D batteries in terms of sizes, properties, and other features. It is crucial that you understand the various sorts, sizes, and chemistries of the batteries and how they will function on your device before you start browsing the end cap of the store where you buy your batteries and become overwhelmed by the wide variety of options available. Although C and D batteries may look quite similar, in reality, they differ in capacity, size, and other properties, raising the question of whether or not they may be used interchangeably and what the actual differences are. C and D batteries are the most common rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries found in most homes and offices. It can be challenging to distinguish between the two at first, but once you understand what each does and what your device requires, you’ll be good to go.Ĭ and D batteries are dry cells often produced for medium-high drain applications, including toys, remote controls, and flashlights. Sometimes it is taxing to find the right batteries for your equipment, but doing so is crucial. |
